Carson Wentz: Two-Faced

So far there have been two distinct sides to Eagles QB Carson Wentz. This was on display again last night, and in general in 2019. There's first half Wentz, who is bad, posting a 51 passer rating, with 1 touchdown to 2 interceptions and a 53% completion percentage. This Carson Wentz threw some of the worst interceptions you'll see against the Falcons last night. And we have seen this Wentz before, like in week 11 in 2018 against the Saints. It's a Wentz that maybe trusts himself too much, trying to make huge plays where none exist. A Wentz that seems awkwardly inaccurate, throwing routine balls into the dirt, and other's too high, leaving his receivers unprotected in the air. On the other hand, is second half Wentz. Third and Wentz, 2017 MVP candidate Wentz. This Wentz escapes inescapable situations, and turns them into crucial completions. We saw this Sunday Night, Carson delivering a 17 yard first down on his knees on a 4th quarter drive that would eventually see the Eagles take the lead. This Wentz has a 73% completion rate and 3 touchdowns to 0 interceptions this year. The struggle for consistency has been Wentz problem his whole NFL career. Whether performance or health, Wentz has had trouble providing long term high value to this Eagles team. At his best, he is MVP level, and we saw that in 2017. But at his worst, he can look tragic. The Eagles aren't sure which Carson Wentz they will get week to week, even half to half. For better or worse, they have committed a lot to Wentz, hoping for 2nd half Wentz as much as possible. The battle between the two Wentz, and the quest for consistency will be the story of his career.
